General Session

The C. Everett Koop National Health Awards The Forum is again honored to be the venue for the highly respected and coveted Koop Awards.  The Koop Awards and key individual from the Health Project added significantly to the overall success and value of the Forum.  You will have the opportunity to learn the details about the Koop Award winning programs and network with the corporate executives and managers who are responsible.

The HERO Forum for Employee Health Management Solutions -
For the first time, the Forum has a theme.  It is The Power of Corporate Culture.  The reason for this theme is that many are of the opinion that health oriented corporate culture and executive commitment are among the most important EHM issues.  We are pleased to introduce this theme because the Forum has become a gathering place for EHM national experts and thought leaders, some of whom have programs with the most highly developed levels of corporate culture.  These individuals will lead discussions on corporate culture and other critical elements for EHM program success.

Keynotes - The Forum will feature two keynote speakers from top corporations with  reputations for their commitment to corporate culture.

Audience-Panel Discussions - These event are different from a traditional panel discussion where three or four individuals have one hour to express their opinions on a topic with the audience having little or no opportunity to be involved. At the 75 minute Audience-Panel Discussions, the audience is urged to be involved. To facilitate this innovative networking approach, microphones are conveniently located in the center aisle.  There are three Audience-Panel Discussions:

  • The Power of Corporate Culture (General Session) - The importance of EHM corporate culture is well understood.  Accomplishing this goal is not easy to achieve.   This Discussion brings together a small, mid-size, and large company that have the most successful corporate culture oriented EHM programs in the country.  They will explain how it was accomplished and you will learn how to enhance your level of corporate culture.   Moderator: David Anderson, PhD - Staywell Health Management.  Panelists: Fikry Isaac, MD, MPH -Johnson & Johnson; Bob Soroosh, MBA - Affinia Group; and Hank Orme - Lincoln Industries.

  • The Details of Employee Health Management Research (General Session) - High quality and unbiased research are the heart blood of EHM.  This ciscussion centers on an in-depth interactive reaction on what kind of research is needed, what kind of research is available, and the key research that is under way.  This is a one stop shop for current and future EHM research know-how.  Moderator: Ron Goetzel, PhD - Thomson-Reuters/Emory University.  Panelists: Nico Pronk, PhD - HealthPartners; Les Yee, MD - Former Medical Director-Procter & Gamble; Laura Karkula - OptumHealth, and Elizabeth Ruha, PhD, Healthways, Inc

  • Employee Health Management Innovation (General Session) - One of the most important factors for the continued development of EHM is for the industry to become as innovative as possible.  Innovation means "getting outside the box", with sufficient courage to develop, test, and perfect new and more efficient EHM approaches.  If you want to be on the cutting edge of the future of EHM, this is it.  Moderator: Gregg Lehman, PhD - HealthFitness.  Panelists: Jeff Dobro, MD - Towers Perrin; John Harris, M. Ed. - Healthways, Inc.; and Diane Hettinger,  Prudential.

"HOW TO” do it Workshops - The Workshops are a central focus of the Forum. Each Workshop is 75 minutes. The corporate EHM thought leaders who facilitate the Workshops use about half the time to discuss the details of their award winning EHM program design and documented outcomes. The remaining time belongs to you, the participant so you can drill down deep into the details of how to design and operate an exemplar EHM program.  Following is a cross section of confirmed Workshops:
  • Barry-Wehmiller Companies
  • Cisco Systems (2009 Koop Award Honorable Mention)
  • Ingenix
  • L.L. Bean (2009 Koop Award)
  • Lowe's
  • Nissan
  • Pfizer, Inc.
  • Quest Diagnostics
  • Relating Best Practice Scores to Strategic Planning
  • State of Nebraska
This is a unique opportunity to learn first-hand all of the details about the best EHM programs and you will leave knowing how it is done.  Read more about the "HOW TO" sessions.
